CIVIC IN THE SUN – FUEL

RACHAEL-O-RAMA # 21

NEW MUSIC FROM CIVIC IN THE SUN

May 12, 2021 by Rachael Contreras
For Rachael-O-Rama #21, we are going back in time, all the way to December of 2020 to a band we featured in Rachael-O-Rama #7, Civic in the Sun.  As you know by now, Civic in the Sun is an amazing up and coming band from Los Angeles and they are going to blow up in all the right ways.
Post script to their smash hit “Tell Me I’m Pretty,” CITS has been spending their zombie apocalypse time this past year writing and perfecting their upcoming 11 track album that is due out in just a few months.  Currently the album is nameless but knowing these guys, they will come up with something amazing.
If you follow CITS on social media (if you don’t yet, put that on the top of your “to-do” list!) you know that they just released a rad new song titled, “Fuel”.  This will most likely be track 1 on their new album.
We had the pleasure to speak with our friend, front-man and favorite vampire (look his name up on IMBD) Aaron Parilo about their new album and possible upcoming plans for 2020.  Aaron told us, “We are going to be releasing 2-3 more singles before we release the album.  Right now, we are focusing on perfecting the mixing and such so once we have the album ready, we will finally play a show for that album release, maybe in about 3 months or so.”

This cool cat gave us the down low on the album and what we have to look forward to (and with these guys, it’s always a lot!).  He said, “The album is pretty eclectic.  It has some Queens of the Stone Age vibes, a few slower songs in the realm of Radiohead instrumental and even a rock version of a Neil Diamond sound that my vocals remind me of.  The album goes dark then uplifting.  Definitely newer sounds that we haven’t put out before.  It was all written during the pandemic so we put all that angst and anxiety into our work.”
The track, “Dogma” is one of Aaron’s favorites.  He says that it has a punk feel (which brought an extra-large smile to our collective faces) and “it was written with extra energy and inspired by the police tension in our world today” but they stop short of getting political because they aren’t that kind of band.  They want to keep you thinking, which Aaron does so well with his lyrical ability to write in a vague way while still being somewhat direct.
The next single to be released off their new album is titled, “Strange”.  We hear it’s more rock radio-friendly and we can’t wait to hear it!  They will also be shooting a video for the song, “Fuel” in June with a well-known director (Aaron is keeping the big name under lock and key for now).
For those of you who have asked, their video released in February for the song, “Drown” was from a drunken idea of wanting to do something very simple so guitarist Xander just said, “What if it’s someone in a dog suit?”.  You will be pleased to know these guys did think ahead and purchased the dog suit because apparently to get in the dancing mood, many tequila shots were had and you could catch a contact buzz just from sticking your head in the dog mask (To be fair, if we were dancing in a full dog suit on a freeway overpass for an entire song during a beautiful sunset for God knows how many takes, we’d need a drink or five, also).
Aaron will also be visiting OC’s TNN RADIO show on KXFM 104.7 in June to talk about Civic in the Sun’s album so be sure to be on the lookout for that.  For now, we will be anxiously awaiting the next few releases until the album drops and enjoying their fierce iTunes catalogue and music videos on YouTube.
Civic in the Sun is a band you will want to catch NOW because they are well on their way to becoming massive.  You will want to get in on the ground floor with a band like this and to be the one to share with all of your friends.
This band can definitely bring it! It features Aaron Perilo (Vocals), Ethan Almeida (Guitar), Xander Gregory (Lead Guitar), Alex Wolfe “Big Al” (Bass/Backing Vox) and Nik Legg (Drums). Seriously, catch them before they blow up!
