The return of “The Kids in the Hall” is everything you wanted, and possibly didn’t want. The show, which originally aired from 1989 – 1994, is back on Amazon for its sixth season after decades off.
The cast is older, less angry but still funny as ever. Returning are Scott Thompson, Dave Foley, Mark McKinney, Bruce McCulloch and Kevin McDonald. The group is back after being buried alive at the end of the previous season. They are dug up and brought back to life.
Because of its new home on Amazon Prime, the cast definitely gets away with so much more than before. They have brought in a bunch of classic characters, plus some new ones and the result is pure gold. They kept the original theme song, which is awesome, and they feature the older versions of themselves in the opening.
Truthfully, not all film or TV reunions are made for the same reasons. As you can imagine, when it is for nothing more than a paycheck, those projects often fall on their face and kill the legacy of whatever it was attached to. The end result is the fans are the ones that pay for it.
Then, on the other end of the spectrum, when it is done for the right reasons, the new creation will bring new life and freshness back into whatever is being resurrected. In this case, “The Kids in the Hall” is back, for the right reasons, and the cast knocked this out of the park and rekindled our fascination with these characters.
Whether you want to relive the ‘90s or become a fan for the first time, watch and enjoy all the raunchy and hilarious skits. They definitely show us how sketch comedy is done.
Technically speaking, we can argue this season is 6th season… with a twenty-year + gap. Considering the dynamics involved, that is funny within itself. Do yourself a favor, check this one out.
