Say it ain’t so! Is Weezer becoming a cover band? No, but their string of kick-ass covers like Toto’s “Africa,” Blur’s “Song 2,” Def Leppard’s “Photograph,” and A-ha’s “Take On Me” would have you believe otherwise.
They’ve had a few original hits in between… “Dope Nose,” “Buddy Holly,” “Pork and Beans,” “Beverly Hills,” “Island in the Sun,” “Undone – The Sweater Song,” “Hash Pipe,” “All My Favorite Songs,” “My Name is Jonas,” “Perfect Situation,” “Troublemaker.” I mean the list of hits goes on and on!
Weezer has entertained us since 1992 when we first heard Rivers Cuomo sing tips about how we could destroy his sweater and how he oddly enough, didn’t wear anything underneath.
Needless to say, things are going well in Weezerland. So the question is… what’s next for Weezer?
The answer to that question is simple. With their entertaining, unique lyrics, and creative ability to always keep us wanting more, they have outdone themselves once again with a rendition of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.”
This version will soon be available for purchase on the new album, “The Metallica Blacklist” where you can hear over 50 artists sing their versions of songs off Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album.
If there was a band you didn’t know you needed to hear remake “Enter Sandman,” it is Weezer. Is Rivers Cuomo another James Hetfield? No, but does he need to be? (Side note: Hetfield went to my high school and we always used to look up his photo in the old yearbooks in the school library.)
Weezer brings something special to this song, including a very quick homage to their super mega hit, “Buddy Holly.” You know these guys don’t take themselves too seriously, but they are serious rockers no matter what song they are playing!
You can check out this and other artists on, “The Metallica Blacklist” on digital and streaming platforms September 10th and vinyl and CD on October 1st.
