After a nearly 14-month halt, Ziggy Marley delivered a bold and radiant return to live music, paying tribute to his late father. Playing Bob Marley’s setlist from his 1979 Babylon By Bus tour show at the Shinjuku Kosei Nenkin Hall in Tokyo, Japan, Ziggy delivered 90 minutes of pure magic.

It was a beautiful night for music at Petco Park. The socially distanced audience was united through a musical journey that delivered a loud and clear call for social unity and equality. A message that was the backbone of his father’s songs and in 2021, has proven to be more relevant than ever. Bob Marley’s legacy is like few others and has stood the test of time, reaching generation after generation.
As Bob Marley’s face was projected onto the screen behind the band, it was impossible not to notice the similarities between father and son. But while you notice similarities in mannerisms, it is Ziggy’s unique charisma, along with an obvious personal connection to his father’s words, that delivered a stellar and distinctive performance that radiated as much of him as of his father.

Ziggy owned this set from the opening “Rastaman Vibration” until the very end. His delivery of “War/No more Trouble” was simply empowering, leading the crowd in a heartfelt sing-a-long.

His stage presence transcended all of my expectations! Marley and his band managed to overcome the obstacles of a sparse, socially-distanced audience and gifted us a set that felt warm and engaging, despite the lack of a jam-packed crowd that generally is staple of his shows.
