A Flock of Seagulls will play one of the first “real” OC live shows of 2021 on May 28 at The Coach House.
Front-man Mike Score will give us a stripped down version of ‘80s classics “I Ran,” “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You),” and “Space Age Love Song.” Score told us he is excited to return to The Coach House for this intimate performance, and he expects some “question and answer” time with the audience. You need to take advantage of this chance before the full band gathers for “big” concerts beginning in June.
Score also dropped another valuable nugget of info…. a new album is on the way!
After the band released “Ascension” in 2018, there was such a positive response to the collaboration with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, they decided to do another orchestral album. “We are always looking for new ways to keep it interesting for people,” Score said about “Ascension.” He continued, “Although we did classic songs on that, and by the way, there is a second philharmonic album coming out.”
Wait?! What?!!
“I’m not sure when it comes out, but it won’t be that long. I did everything I needed to do for it,” he said. “It went to the orchestra. I’ve heard a few rough mixes of it and it sounds better than the first one if you ask me. We are always looking for new ways to keep people interested in us and keep it interesting for us.”
While we as music fans always love the classic versions of songs we have known for decades, new versions can keep songs fresh, and let us hear a song in a new way we had not thought of. “Apart from writing new songs, we’ve got to look back at what we’ve done and say does it still stand up, and of course you want it to stand up all the time. A song like ‘I Ran’ should stand up forever and ‘Space Age’ should stand up forever. And ‘Wishing,’” he explained. “We try and just doctor them a little bit without going too far away from the original. People can kind of go, ‘Oh I never thought I’d hear it like that’ which is the orchestral version or maybe a stripped down version or a heavier version. Sometimes we like to play it live, heavy and sometimes we like to play it a bit lighter and a bit more airy.”
Grab your tickets now to catch the intimate Flock of Seagulls at The Coach House and maybe you’ll get a taste of what they are working on.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show. For venue show information:
