OMG is the only way I can best describe this latest music news coming from across the pond. For many of us, ABBA was part of our high school soundtrack and they are back!
I’m not saying they are back with a new single, or a live stream or an announcement of what their plans are. Let’s consider all of the above and more!
Like the backdrop to a classic John Hughes film, ABBA was the band that best exemplified teenage angst in the ‘70s through early ‘80s.
We fell in love with them with the songs that gave us the happy feet. Songs like “Take a Chance On Me,” “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!,” “Lay All Your Love On Me,” “Waterloo,” “Fernando,” “Mamma Mia,” and their mega-hit and anthem “Dancing Queen.”
Fast forward to September 2021 and after a 40-year hiatus ABBA announced their long-anticipated reunion.
The Swedish icons are Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid (Frida) Lyngstad, Agnetha Fälskog and Björn Ulvaeus also had two new singles to share with us, “I Still Have Faith in You,” and “Don’t Shut Me Down.”
“Voyage” is the new album and it is scheduled to drop November 5th. The band also announced a set of virtual concerts where their avatars (or ABBA-tars) will perform at a specially built venue in London’s Olympic Park to begin next May.
The show will play six nights a week, with ABBA band members appearing in digital form. A 10-piece live band will play live.
ABBA | VOYAGE ALBUM COVER
As mentioned, this news was anticipated because last month the band launched an ABBA Voyage site encouraging fans to sign up for inside information.
The new album “Voyage” features 10 tracks that are guaranteed to make you smile and dance! Stay tuned for more exciting news from the ABBA camp. In the meantime, make way for new music from ABBA!
