Since 2018, iHeartRadio’s annual AlterEgo festival has become one of the must-see events of the year, and we can now tell you AlterEgo 2023 will take place on January 14th at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, and with an incredible lineup.
Each year, iHeartRadio somehow finds a way to bring out even bigger names than the year previously. Past headliners have included Billie Eilish, Blink-182, and Muse. Last year’s show featured performances from Twenty One Pilots, Coldplay, and even a surprise appearance by Avril Lavigne. I know we say this every year, but this year’s lineup might just be the most impressive yet.
Fresh off their tour playing arenas across the United States, the night will be headlined by Los Angeles’ own Red Hot Chili Peppers. RHCP just finished up their 2022 tour and will kick off 2023 with the first show of the year being AlterEgo ’23. The Peppers have been touring behind the recent release of their 13th studio album, “Return of the Dream Canteen.”
The album marks the return of longtime guitarist John Frusciante, who departed for a second time in 2009, before rejoining in 2019. The Kia Forum will gladly welcome John, Anthony, Flea, and Chad as they bring their one-of-a-kind live show in January.
Jack White, who just co-headlined Saturday night of the Ohana Fest a few weeks ago, was also announced as a performer for 2023’s AlterEgo. I was fortunate enough to see him shred in person as his solo act lit up Doheny State Beach. Fans can expect him to bust out songs from the two solo albums he released this year, as well as their favorite hits from The White Stripes and The Raconteurs.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a more hectic touring schedule than Muse, who are bouncing around all over Europe, while still making time to play several shows in North America, including a headlining show at the Wiltern earlier this month. They’ll somehow find time in their busy schedule to play AlterEgo, and will no doubt be playing songs off 2022’s “Will of the People.”
It seems wild that we are this deep into the lineup and I am just now announcing Fall Out Boy, a band that could literally sell out just about any venue alone, which just goes to show how stacked this year’s show will be. The Chicago natives have been busy touring the world lately, having just played on the European end of the Hella Mega Tour, featuring Green Day, Weezer, and the Interrupters.
AlterEgo 2023 will also see the return of Phoenix, the indie darlings of the 2010s. The French group broke into the mainstream with “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” which featured radio hits “1901” and “Lisztomania.” The band has been making the rounds lately in anticipation of the November release of their upcoming album, “Alpha Zulu.”
Also on the roster is Glasgow’s Chvrches. They broke onto the scene with their debut album “The Bones of What You Believe” in 2013, and have been touring to back the release of 2021’s “Screen Violence.”
