Drink Wine With

BAUHAUS

New Music & 2022 Tour

March 24, 2022 by Traci Turner
The iconic band that is Bauhaus has just released a brand new song, their first in 14 years. “Drink the New Wine” reminds us why Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, Kevin Haskins, and David J are considered the pioneers of goth, but with a sound for the future.
Their first new music since the 2008 album, “Go Away White,” “Drink the New Wine” was recorded during lockdown by all four members sharing audio files.
In a truly fascinating process, the song used the Surrealists’ “Exquisite Corpse” method in which “each artist adds to the piece without seeing what the others have done.” They had eight tracks to record whatever instrumental and vocals they wanted for one minute, and then it was blended together to form the song. They also shared 60 seconds to create the ending, which is a memorable moment of the track.
Bauhaus stated they have used this method in the past, and the title for “Drink the New Wine” “refers to the very first ‘Cadavre exquis’ drawing rendered by André Breton, Marcel Duchamp, Jacques Prévert and Yves Tanguy which included words which when strung together made up the sentence, ‘Le cadavre exquis boiara le vin nouveau’ (‘The exquisite corpse will drink the new wine.’).”
The result is groundbreaking and haunting.
Since their launch in 1978, Bauhaus has been giving us music that defied labels and led to the goth revolution. The “post punk pioneers” have given us classics like “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” and their cover of Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust.” It was their self-produced the 1980 album “In the Flat Field” – which is widely considered the original gothic rock album.

LOVE AND ROCKETS

They went on to release more albums, have some bust ups, launch side projects (Peter Murphy solo, Tones on Tail, Love and Rockets – all iconic), and reunions.

PETER MURPHY

They regrouped at the end of 2019 for three sold-out shows at the Hollywood Palladium and intended to continue touring, but 2020 was the year that canceled everything for everyone.
Bauhaus will finally be able to hit the road this summer, kicking it off at the Cruel World Festival in Pasadena. If you are one of the people who holds a ticket to the sold-out extravaganza, congratulations! It is going to be an extraordinary event with performances by DEVO, Morrissey, English Beat, Echo & the Bunnymen, Berlin, Violent Femmes, Blondie, Missing Persons, The Church, The Psychedelic Furs, and more.
Check out “Drink the New Wine,” and prepare for a summer of Bauhaus.
