One of the quintessential ‘80s bands is doing a few shows in the Golden State. The band formerly known as Angel and the Snake – but you know as Blondie – just announced they are coming our way.
The legends will be playing Humphreys Concerts by the Bay for their Against The Odds Tour as well as the Masonic in the Bay area. They will also take part in the Cruel World Festival, all events are set for May, 2022.
With 11 studio albums since 1976, Blondie proves to bring the rock. Best known worldwide for super, mega, ultra-hits like “Call Me,” and “Rapture,” Blondie will be touring the United Kingdom this spring, stopping only in California for a few shows before heading off to Guadalajara, Mexico.
You know that a band is legendary when a current band considered to be legends in their own time cover a song. Last year the boys from Green Day got together to cover Blondie’s, “Dreaming.” We all know the song, but for Green Day, this became another hit to add to their gigantic music catalog.
As for this larger-than-life band, the unmistakable Debbie Harry has made Blondie an iconic band of multiple decades. One of the leading renegade godmothers of punk rock, her style and bad-assery would make you guess she was born with a microphone in her hand.
Believe it or not, Harry actually used to be pretty shy. She has said she had an epiphany performing at the famous New York concert venue, CBGB’s, when she realized she had to stop waiting for the crowd to give her what she needed; she needed to command it from the crowd. This helped her move from background singer to front-women and thus, history was made.
CRUEL WORLD FEST
May 14th & 15th, 2022
Brookside at the Rose Bowl
While Harry is the recognizable face of Blondie, the band is filled with incredible musicians who have put out multiple hits – “Heart of Glass,” “One Way or Another,” “Hanging on the Telephone,” “Atomic,” “Sunday Girl,” “The Tide Is High,” for instance – and have earned their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
These concerts are your chance to see Harry, Chris Stein (guitar), Clem Burke (drums), Leigh Foxx (bass), Matt Katz-Bohen (keyboards), and Tommy Kessler (guitar) in the flesh.
The combination of sonic vision and reality manifest into an electrifying event that is a must see.
Supporting Blondie on these two one-off shows is English punk rock icons, The Damned. This band has been doing their own damn thing since 1976, including giving a cover of “Alone Again Or” their own rock flare without taking the feel away. The song put The Damned on the UK Top 40 map and the band has continued to stay true to their style for more than 40 years. They also have other hits, their most notable commercial hit is “Smash It Up,” which made its way on to the silver screen.
