A few months ago, we gave you the newest single from Brian Setzer. Now the full album is here, and in celebration, Setzer is releasing the third single and video.
His first solo album in seven years, Brian Setzer drops “Gotta Have the Rumble” today with a vinyl edition to be in stores in the fall. The previous singles, “Checkered Flag” and “Smash Up On Highway One,” are joined by third single, “Rockabilly Banjo.”
“Rockabilly Banjo” is written by Setzer and Stephen “Dibbs” Preston (The Rockats). The tune is a “spirited countrified rockabilly song” that includes the banjo skills of Setzer himself.
“Me and Dibbs were hanging around, and it was one of the few times ever that someone gives me a song that’s just the music and not the lyrics,” Setzer said.
“And Dibbs said, ‘hey you play banjo, I love the way you play it.’ You know, banjo makes everybody smile and everybody’s after me to play more banjo. And Dibbs said, ‘hey, I got a song, what do you think of this?’ and I thought ‘Wow! Let’s clean it up.’ So that’s the last track. The legendary Paul Franklin is on steel. It was just a fun and good way out of the mess called 2020!”
“Gotta Have the Rumble” refers to Setzer’s love of motorcycles and hot rods. The three-time Grammy winner’s iconic voice and style of rockabilly swing, and rock has brought us decades of hits.
As front-man for the Stray Cats and Brian Setzer Orchestra, Setzer has shown himself to be an incredibly talented singer, songwriter and guitarist.
“Gotta Have the Rumble” features 11 tracks and all were written or co-written by Setzer.
