Is it May yet? This seems to be a question we feel we’ve been asking forever now, but the time has finally come and May is right around the corner. After two years of pushing back and postponing, California Roots Music and Arts Festival is going in full force.
Memorial Day weekend at the legendary Monterey County Fairgrounds always promises to be a memorable time with Cali Roots. The festival is full of music, art, and tons of great food. This year they have added a fourth day to make up the time we’ve lost, a first for the event since its start in 2010.
With this extra day, gates will open Thursday instead of the usual Friday, and artists have a chance to get the party started early!
There are so many exciting artists scheduled to represent the music scene. Dirty Heads, Stephen Marley, Fortunate Youth, DENM, Tropidelic, Protoje, Alborosie, Eli Mac, and Tunnel Vision will kick things off the right way on Thursday.
Friday morning, Kash’d Out, Arise Roots, Earthkry, Natural Vibrations, Sa-Roc, and Natalie Rize set the tone for the day, while Satsang, Tarrus Riley, Brother Ali, The Movement, J Boog, Pepper, Chronixx, Atmosphere and Rebelution jam well into the evening.
Saturday starts off with Sensi Trails, The Elovators, Bumpin Uglies, Dub Inc., and The Expendables, and finishes off with Collie Buddz, The Green, Trevor Hall, Tribal Seeds, Beenie Man, Stick Figure, and Slightly Stoopid.
The final day of the festival is looking to be phenomenal with Vana Liya, Artikal Sound System, Keznamdi, Through the Roots, Mike Love, Iya Terra, Hirie, Anthony B taking the stage, then finishing the whole festival off with Common Kings, Sean Paul, Ice Cube, Damien Marley, and a special debut performance by Sublime With Rome.
California Roots is slated for May 26th – 29th and additional bands will be added to the four-day line-up. The festival offers GA and VIP options along with off-site camping and glamping.
No matter who you are or where you call home, this lineup has something for everyone. Our sonic heroes will meet in one place, and there’s nothing better than that. We all look forward to being back at Cali Roots. Hope to see you there!
