50 Years of De-Evolution

The Farewell Tour
July 26, 2023 by David Jackson
They are outrageous, ahead of their time, and de-evolutionized music for the better. Quintessential is used a lot to describe many bands, but in the case of DEVO, it truly fits.
The iconic new wave band – that was originally dubbed a punk band – has announced a series of West Coast tour dates. The DEVO Farewell Tour: Celebrates 50 Years of De-Evolution.

If you haven’t seen this band before, get ready to get your socks knocked off. They are electrifying, and if I can squeeze in the word boombastic, that is how I can best describe this band.
With era-defining hits like “Whip It,” “Shout,” “Uncontrollable Urge,” “Girl U Want,” “Gates of Steel,” “Mongoloid,” “Beautiful World,” “Peek A Boo,” “Freedom of Choice,” “Jocko Homo,” “That’s Good,” and “Satisfaction” – I mean, the list of hits we all danced to our entire life goes on and on.

Formed in 1973 in Akron, Ohio, the band features the brothers Mothersbaugh (Mark and Bob). With a few moving parts over the years, including a Foo (Josh Freese) who is now a former spud, the band still packs a punch onstage.

Then, they will journey up north to the beautiful YouTube Theater in Inglewood on November 16th.
You will also be able to see them at Darker Waves Festival in Huntington Beach on November 18th. Any way you look at this leg of the tour, that’s good!
