Now that we’re slowly moving back to life as it once was, we are hopeful that we will be able to get out to our favorite places soon. For many of us, going to live shows is one of those things we’ve missed the most over the past year. What better way to get back to it than seeing one of the bands that made noise on the Sunset Strip from dusk till dawn on any given night in the ‘80s and ‘90s: The Go-Go’s!
The Go-Go’s legendary status is confirmed by their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination this year. They bring just as much swagger as any of the male-dominated bands that rocked at Gazari’s, the Palladium, or the Roxy back in the day, and we have been singing their songs for decades.
For their legions of fans, they have so many familiar hits: “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “We Got The Beat,” “Head Over Heels,” “Turn To You,” “Vacation,” “How Much More,” and “Cool Jerk” for instance.
The band’s core remains intact with Belinda Carlisle (vocals), Jane Wiedlin (rhythm guitar), Charlotte Caffey (lead guitar), Kathy Valentine (bass), and Gina Schock (drums). I saw them right before the world went sideways, and these girls can still bring it!
Luckily for us, they are going to come back to SoCal and do a few shows. So far the dates include a stop at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay on June 23rd and 24th, then they head over to the Pechanga Resort in Temecula on June 27th, then back up to the Orpheum in L.A. on June 29th and 30th.
While you’re at it, check out The Alison Ellwood film, Go-Go’s on SHOWTIME. It’s out now and has a new single called “Club Zero.” You can also check out their documentary on Amazon Prime and get yourself in the mood to see them in person this summer.
Despite all the challenges we’ve faced the past year, there are some things that will always make us smile. The Go-Go’s are at the top of that list of things that make our gray skies blue!
