Sometimes the phrase “rock royalty” is overused, and sometimes it is just out of context. However, this summer, actual rock royalty will be coming to town in the form of Howard Jones and Midge Ure.
Synth-pop pioneer Howard Jones is best known for his era-defining songs, “Life in One Day,” “Things Can Only Get Better,” “New Song,” “What is Love?,” and “Everlasting Love.”
These songs perfectly capture the essence of the new wave era and make Jones an iconic example of the genre. Now Jones is hard at work on a new studio album, “Dialogue,” the third album in a trilogy of electronic releases from him. We can expect the new tunes to be released this summer, just in time for live shows.
About this summer’s tour, Jones said, “I am beyond excited to be touring the US this summer with my great friend Midge Ure. As we take safe steps to put the pandemic behind us, the tour will be a celebration of being together, enjoying the power of live music again. Expect plenty of hit songs as well as cuts from my new album Dialogue.”
Former Ultravox and Visage crooner Midge Ure is very excited to be joining his good friend on the road. Ure said of the tour, “What a joy to be touring North America with my friend Howard Jones again. With the emphasis on technology, quality and performance I am looking forward to dusting off the synthesizers, cranking up the guitar and playing with the brilliant musicians who will be sharing the stage with me. We first collaborated live together back in 1989 on Howard’s ‘Cross the line Tour’ which holds nothing but great memories for me, so I am hoping to not only rekindle those but add new ones to the memory bank.”
Another legend of the era, Ure is best known for “Fade to Grey,” “Reap the Wild Wind,” and Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas.” Ure brings a larger-than-life presence to the stage, and partnered with Jones, this is a unique opportunity to see these amazing musicians.
