In our ongoing That’s Entertainment series, this time we cover the recent “Mortal Kombat” movie. It’s finally out and in my opinion, it was incredibly entertaining. They definitely up the gore factor from the 1995 version of the film, and this gives the reboot a hard R-rating.
The movie is a fun, popcorn film, but I think the overall story is pretty solid. You will get some awesome kills from the video game, and the whole time – even as an adult – I just wait for “Get Over Here!”
The martial-arts flick cast includes Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Joe Taslim, and Mehcad Brooks. The film was in purgatory for years after “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation” flopped in 1997, but they got this filmed and even through the pandemic, it is finally out to us.
I would definitely give it a watch, especially if you’re a fan of the video game or the previous movies. It is set in more of a “real-life setting” versus the tournament style, so that may throw you off. As I said, the gore factor is high. While I enjoy that, it earns its R-rating, so it is not a movie for kids. There is a lot of adult language too, trust the R-rating. If that stuff doesn’t bother you, I say give it a watch and enjoy.
