OCEANSIDE SOUND SYSTEM

“O.S.S.”

December 30, 2020 by Josh Coutts

In our ongoing SKAROUND The World series, this time we take you to Oceanside, California. If you’re not familiar with the area, it’s a little hamlet or metropolitan statistical area just north of San Diego. This is where you find Oceanside Sound System.
These badass dudes embody everything that is ska, punk rock, and two-tone rolled into one. They started making waves in the music scene with their 2013 debut album “The 4th Wave.” They have stayed busy rocking throughout California, spreading the good vibes with their upbeat, two-tone style of ska punk.

They formed in 2009, and after some line-up changes, the original five core members are bringing back the heavier ska punk sound.
Imagine if Operation Ivy, Suicide Machines, and Against All Authority had a baby, this would be the love child! Pure kickass jams and music that will melt your face off.

They released “Skank and Destroy” in 2016 and let me tell you, it is an incredible album! On top of that, they put on a damn killer live show that will always get you to dance, shake your ass, mosh, whatever you like to do.
Even the guy who hides in the corner and crosses his arms will actually move around… even if only a little.

OSS has shared the stage with some of the biggest names inthe world of ska-punk. Bands like The Interrupters, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Hepcat, English Beat, The Aggrolites, Buck-O-Nine, Hub City Stompers, and Left Alone Mustard Plug just to name a few.
They have also played the Punk Rock Bowling Music Festival as well as Viva Ska Vegas and Punk Rock BBQ LV.

As for new music, front-man Jon (Skillet) Blakemore says, “With the new material, we are trying to turn the dial from 1st to 2tone to ska punk with the attempt to keep the dance floor moving from skank to skank pit!”
The band’s new album is coming out in 2021. They hope to touch a bit on all types of ska, 2Tone, traditional, skacore, and 3rd wave. I can’t wait to see the magic this band has to drop and getting back to doing what they do best: bringing the live show with a vengeance. They are electricity personified!
