Although they are currently on the other side of the globe, Pixies have announced the first leg of their 2023 North American tour and it looks like we’re hitting Vegas, baby!
Black Francis (vocals and guitar), Joey Santiago (guitar), Paz Lenchantin (bass), and David Lovering (drums) remain one of the most influential bands of the alternative rock genre. Through “Surfer Rosa,” “Doolittle,” and their latest, “Doggerel,” Pixies have become musical legends like no other.
Their live shows typically include 30 songs, always on the fly, and they don’t even know an opener… that’s how amazing they are. What other band can give you an absolutely unique show that doesn’t even match the other times you have seen them? I spoke to Santiago last year and asked how the heck they manage to play songs off the cuff like that, and he said, “We’ve been doing this for a while. We’re professional Pixies!”
The current tour is in support of 2022’s “Doggerel,” which they describe as “a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock haunted by the ghosts of affairs and indulgences, driven wild by cosmic forces and envisioning digital afterlives where no God has provided one.”
In addition to the new songs, you can be sure to hear some of your favorites from the past, especially “Here Comes Your Man” and “Where is My Mind?”
The North American tour will kick off May 4th in Northern California and stop in Vegas May 12th and 13th at Encore Theatre at Wynn. Since they stated this is the “first leg,” I guess it is safe to say there will be more dates added.
Tickets for this first batch of dates go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. local time. Yes, they will sell out.
