International songwriting competition Eurovision has been gaining worldwide attention in recent years, making competing artists global superstars (see Måneskin!).
In 2023, we will see what happens when artists who are already global superstars throw themselves into the contest as Public Image Ltd. represents Ireland with their new song, “Hawaii.”
Public Image Ltd. (PiL) front-man John Lydon has created “the most personal piece of songwriting and accompanying artwork” that he has ever shared. “Hawaii” is “a love letter” to Nora, his wife of nearly five decades, who is living with Alzheimer’s. “A pensive, personal yet universal love song that will resonate with many, the song sees John reflecting on their lifetime well spent, and in particular, one of their happiest moments together in Hawaii.”
Lydon – yes, the same Lydon that fronted the Sex Pistols – gives us this deeply personal ballad and said, “It is dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most. It’s also a message of hope that ultimately love conquers all.”
PiL will showcase “Hawaii” at the Eurovision competition on February 3rd, but it is available on all digital platforms now. “Hawaii” will also be released as a limited edition vinyl later this year.
Also happening later this year, Lydon, Lu Edmonds (guitar), Bruce Smith (drums), and Scott Firth (bass) will deliver a new PiL album! Details to follow soon.
In 2022, PiL blew the SoCal crowd away at the sold-out Cruel World Fest, proving they are still one of the most innovative and influential bands of all time. We can’t wait to see them onstage again – and have new music – in 2023!
