ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME | CLASS OF 2023

ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME

CLASS of 2023

May 3, 2023 by Traci Turner
The announcement has finally been made! Your new Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are…
Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, and the Spinners!
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame President Joel Peresman said, “We’re very happy with this year’s class. People always try to pigeonhole what rock and roll is, but our story has always been that it’s a wide tent. It includes all different kinds of genres.

We think this class really shows the breadth of rock and roll. When you have Missy Elliott, Sheryl Crow, and the Spinners along with Rage Against the Machine and Willie Nelson, you’re covering a lot of things.”

Willie Nelson just celebrated his 90th birthday and capped his week with a two-day concert at Hollywood Bowl. This was his first time on the ballot, and now he will now hit the road through the summer and fall.
Kate Bush has always been a cult favorite, but found herself popular with a new generation thanks to “Stranger Things” featuring her 1985 single “Running Up That Hill.” She has never toured the US, and has very rarely performed live, so hopefully the awards ceremony will be a special occasion!

Rage Against the Machine has been nominated six times, so hooray for finally getting their due! The band planned to tour last year for the first time in over a decade, but front-man Zack de la Rocha was injured. Perhaps the ceremony will mark his return?

I am sad Joy Division/New Order and The White Stripes did not make it, but hey, there is always next year.
The induction ceremony will be held on November 3rd in Brooklyn, and will be broadcast at a later date.
Congratulations to the new class!
