This has been a great year for live music and before 2022 is up, we will get to see an icon. On December 10th, the living legend, Smokey Robinson, will perform live at the YouTube Theatre.
Best known as a Motown legend, Robinson’s reach goes well beyond his hit songs. He is a music producer, actor, and former music executive. His music has inspired so many in the music industry, from all genres and years.
Born in Detroit as William Robinson, Jr., he will be forever linked to The Miracles, a backbone band of the Motown era. While with the Miracles, Robinson hit it big with “The Tears of a Clown” (later popularized by The English Beat), “Love Machine,” “I Second That Emotion,” “You Really Got a Hold on Me,” “Shop Around,” and “The Tracks of My Tears.”
In addition to his time with The Miracles, Robinson has enjoyed a distinguished solo career. He didn’t do too shabby on his own with ginormous songs “Cruisin’,” “One Heartbeat,” “Ooo Baby Baby,” and “Being with You.”
Along with a host of prestigious awards that make him bona fide music royalty, Robinson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
Robinson has earned the respect of fans and critics alike. With all his music accolades, it should come to no surprise that his name is linked to an amazing roster of bands courtesy of his production skills.
Artists that have the Smokey Robinson Midas touch include Aretha Franklin, Rod Stewart, Dolly Parton, The Temptations, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, The Contours, Diana Ross, Mary Wells, Otis Redding, Tom Jones, The Isley Brothers, Booker T & the M.G.’s, Sonny and Cher, Johnny Rivers, The Righteous Brothers, The Rolling Stones, and, oh yeah, The Beatles. I mean, the list just goes on and on and on!
