Beverly Hills Cop

In our continuing That’s Entertainment series, here’s another classic for you to re-watch or enjoy for the first time. It is one of the better movies to come out of 1984, and in my opinion, it’s Eddie Murphy’s best work.
Coming right from SNL fame, Murphy was crazy popular due to his stand-up comedy specials (“Delirious” and “Raw”) and movies (“48 Hours” and “Trading Places”), but this was the movie that turned his career into gold and proved he could be the lead star.

In “Beverly Hills Cop,” Murphy plays Axel Foley, a Detroit detective who goes to Beverly Hills to search for the killer of his best friend. Of course there is great comedy (“You’re not gonna fall for the banana in the tailpipe?”), but it also has awesome action by Murphy and company.
The cast joining Murphy includes Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Lisa Eilbacher, Ronny Cox, Steven Berkoff, James Russo, Jonathan Banks, Paul Reiser, and hysterical appearances from Bronson Pinchot and Damon Wayans.
The movie proved Murphy could be the lead in a major motion picture and it remains one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time. There were even two sequels to “Beverly Hills Cop,” and there is a rumor a fourth one is in the works. The music is also great and won a Grammy for best soundtrack.
The comedy still holds up and it really is one of the classic ‘80s films that still entertains. Everything about this movie has a place in my heart and I love every minute of it.

So give “Beverly Hills Cop” some love and enjoy the action, story, and comedic one-liners that made the movie special.
And remember – enjoy the movies!
