In our ongoing “That’s Entertainment” series, we take you back in time and out of this world. What can I say about one of the coolest and absolutely one of my favorite cult classic horror films of all time? The movie in question is the 1988 science fiction horror-comedy, “Killer Klowns From Outer Space.”
The premise of the movie is well … space clowns (spelled Klowns for the film). These evil aliens are definitely not the lovable “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” they are from an unknown region of deep outer space. They just happen to give the appearance of creepy circus clowns.
Unlike depictions in “Ancient Aliens,” these clowns are here for nefarious purposes. They arrive on Earth and immediately invade a small town in order to capture, kill, and harvest the human inhabitants to use as sustenance.
The special effects are fantastic and should not be scoffed at. The Chiodo Bros. Production did the special effects as well as directed and produced the film.
The cast consisted of Grant Cramer (Mike Tobacco), Suzanne Snyder (Debbie Stone), John Allen Nelson (Deputy Dave Hanson), John Vernon (Deputy Curtis Mooney) and an ensemble of characters you have to see to believe.
Let’s not forget the movie soundtrack, the lead single was “Killer Klowns From Outer Space,” by The Dickies… yes, that band the Dickies! The “Gigantor,” “Banana Splits” and “If Stuart Could Talk,” Dickies !
I really hope we get that sequel that the Chiodo Bros. have been talking about since 1988. It almost happened when 21st Century Fox (Disney) had a sequel on their radar, but COVID put a kabosh to that (along with about 200 other Fox projects!).
For now, you can watch the movie on Hulu! Enjoy this wonderful cult classic!
Seriously, let’s work on that sequel. #KillerKlowns2 and remember to enjoy the movies!
