As life gets back to some semblance of normality, we are now getting glimpses as to how we view our world through the yes of art. There’s no better place, especially in Orange County to view those yes but at The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.
On July 24, 2021, The Bowers Museum will be opening The Gift of Los Angeles: Memories in Watercolor by Gayle Garner Roski.
This exhibit features over a hundred watercolors by the LA based artist, with a spotlight on her series Los Angeles Millennium 2000-2020: a celebration of her experiences growing up and living in the City of Angels and larger SoCal region. This celebration of life was a labor of love for Gayle Garner, who completed the project while battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the rare neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Her death in October of 2020 was an immeasurable loss to those who knew and loved her but is softened by the wonderful legacy that she leaves behind in her paintings.
“I am a happy painter. All of my work, from the very beginning, has always been about celebration. Celebration of life. Celebration of a person. Celebration of a moment.” – Gayle Garner Roski
The Gift of Los Angeles: Memories in Watercolor by Gayle Garner Roski is organized by the Bowers Museum and curated by Jean Stern. Artworks are on loan from the Roski Family. Some of the watercolor paintings include images of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, and Chinatown. There is even a special finely detailed image of the finish line of the Los Angeles Marathon which Gayle participated in, in 1992 a year after she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro at 50 years young!
This is something the whole family can enjoy. Not only does The Bowers Museum have so much history to offer but the grounds are beautiful and it’s right in our own backyard here in Orange County. Be sure not to miss out!
This exhibit runs from July 24 – November 14, 2021.
