THE RETURN OF SAOSIN

Returns to Garden Amp

June 14, 2023 by Tim Markel
Coming back to the Garden Amp in Garden Grove is Orange County’s own, Saosin. It’s been a mere eight months since we last rejoiced in the return of Saosin with their unforgettable shows at the Garden Amp, yet this two-night residency promises to be an even more extraordinary and momentous occasion.
On June 17th and 18th, Saosin will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their first show, the release of “Translating the Name,” and “much more.”
With their signature blend of melodic vocal hooks, intricate guitar riffs, and masterful drum fills, Saosin effortlessly transports listeners into a realm where visceral emotion and explosive energy collide.
With three EPs and three full-length albums, voiced by two of the most talented vocalists in the genre, Saosin has cultivated an unwavering fan following that continues to seize every opportunity to see the band with each new sporadic show announcement.

The band has promised a “catalog-spanning superset with many special, never before seen guests and performances.” I anticipate the obvious appearance of vocalist Cove Reber, who voiced the band’s self-titled full-length, “In Search of Solid Ground,” and multiple EPs.
I would be absolutely ecstatic to see an appearance by Goldfinger/Story of the Year guitarist Phil Sneed, who once filled in on vocal duties shortly before the band hired vocalist Cove Reber as their full-time singer. I had the pleasure of seeing Saosin with Sneed on vocals at Warped Tour 2004, and it was truly life-changing; I’ve never been able to relive that experience.

Any avid follower of the bands’ early works can attest that the distinctive essence of their sound can be partially attributed to the remarkable drumming showcased in “Translating the Name.”

This would be to the credit of session drummer Pat Magrath, whose performance completely mesmerized my 18-year-old self when I first listened to the album. I’m trying not to raise my expectations too high, but it would truly be an incredible experience if Magrath took his place behind the drum kit for a few songs during the upcoming shows!
If you haven’t yet experienced a Saosin show, or a Garden Amp show at that, you should seize this opportunity. Getting to see Saosin in such an intimate setting is something you will remember for the rest of your life and you won’t find a better venue to see them.
The first night is sold out, however tickets for night two (June 18th) are still on sale.
