The Smashing Pumpkins have just announced a North American arena tour and they are bringing Jane’s Addiction along for the ride. The Spirits on Fire Tour kicks off in October and covers 32 dates with a conclusion at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.
The Smashing Pumpkins are… well… they’re the Pumpkins! If you are a music fan, it is basically required by law that you see them live. The Grammy-winning band became icons in the ‘90s and continues to hold that title. With more than 30 million albums sold worldwide, they’ve become part of our musical lexicon with albums “Gish,” “Siamese Dream,” “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness,” “Adore,” and “Machina/The Machines of God.” While 2020 sucked for many reasons, one shining light was the release of their double album, “CYR.” We are also told we can expect more new music in 2022.
Billy Corgan and original members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin are joined by Jeff Schroeder and we can expect to see them perform “Today,” “Zero,” “Drown,” “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” “1979,” “Tonight, Tonight,” “Cherub Rock,” “Disarm,” and hopefully “Mayonaise.”
Of course, Pumpkins alone would be fantastic, but Jane’s Addiction will cross the country with them. No stranger to millions of albums sold themselves, Jane’s Addiction were also staples of alternative rock stations in the ‘90s and beyond. Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins, and Chris Chaney getting back on the road could mean they are ready to pick things up again… maybe? The band responsible for “Jane Says,” “Been Caught Stealing,” “Mountain Song,” “Obvious,” “Classic Girl,” “Just Because,” and “Stop!” has fans drooling for news of new music.
Some dates will include support by Poppy while Meg Myers handles duties for other dates.
