Hailed as the world’s largest surfing competition, The Vans US Open of Surfing returns to Huntington Beach July 30th through August 7th.
This year’s nine-day event will include men’s and women’s surfing, as well as skateboarding in the Vans Showdown, and BMX in the Vans Waffle Cup.
This year’s theme is “the importance of environmental responsibility.” Eco-consciousness will be integrated into all of the Vans activities and “showcase the connection of sustainability with surf culture and surf product.”
Deemed the largest professional sports competition and action sports festival in the world, the Vans US Open of Surfing is sanctioned by the World Surf League. It will feature the fourth stop of the WSL Challenger Series with 160 competitors. The finals are scheduled for August 7th.
On the sand in the Van Doren Village, there will be daily activities relating to the theme of sustainability including wetsuit repair, duct tape shaping bay, community market, Vans retail store, and Vans founder Steve Van Doren grilling up a free lunch to attendees.
