It’s been an unbelievable run and the legends from the world of punk have announced the end is near! The Los Angeles icons, X have announced their final album and tour.
The band has been solid with their nucleus comprised of the same lineup for decades featuring Exene Cervenka on vocals, John Doe on bass, Billy Zoom on guitar and DJ Bonebreak on drums. This quartet has been electrifying fans worldwide since 1977.
The album will be titled “Smoke & Fiction,” and will be released August 2nd. The supporting tour – named after the new album – kicks off July 6th in Kansas City, then crosses the country until it ends in South Carolina on October 30th. But before that happens, they will have a few shows in SoCal.
“Smoke and Fiction” is bound to be phenomenal as it was produced by Rob Schnapf, who has previously scored hits for Beck and Foo Fighters.
We spoke with Doe earlier in the year and he was beyond excited about the new album; little did we know at the time it would be their last. Their previous album, 2020’s “Alphabetland” was also produced by Schnapf.
The band has already dropped the first single, “Big Black X.” It is sharp, electric and the band so alive, it is going to do very-very well.
As for their fans, this band has put out some of the most era-and life- defining songs you will hear. Their music has been played on radio, TV, commercials and on the big screen.
The list of iconic songs is crazy- fans scream out for “Los Angeles,” “White Girl,” “Wild Thing,” “The New World,” “Devil Doll,” “Under the Big Black Sun,” “Blue Spark,” “Breathless,” “4th of July,” and “Nausea.” That’s is just a small sample of the songs that have defined their career and our lives.
Fear not locals, you can still catch X locally on July 25th and 26th at the regent in Los Angeles, then at this year’s Summer Concert Series at Pacific Amphitheatre on July 28th. Then they will close out their California leg on July 30th at The Belly-Up Tavern in Solano Beach.
Tickets are available. I highly recommend you see this legendary band while you still can.
