SAN DIEGO MISSION BAYFEST
Returns to Mariner’s Point Park
September 12, 2024 by Jimmy Alvarez
As the never-ending summer of 2024 slowly sunsets, what a better way to look towards the fall than with another raging festival.
Waterfront Park is the venue, San Diego is the city, and Mission Bayfest is the event that will cap off the best summer for music we have seen in years.
For the locals and anyone familiar with the SoCal music landscape, we all know that for decades all mega-events south of the OC line were held in the Mission Bay area.

Blink-182 played many a summer at Warped tour here and X-Games had a home here too. We’re even a hop, skip and a jump from SOMA. There’s also the Mission Bay Concert series that brought some of the most epic moments in memory to SoCal.
San Diego has always had a rich history when it comes to music. With the legendary 91X dropping dope tunes for decades, it’s no wonder San Diego is the destination place it’s become. With uber-fests and unreal shows taking place at Petco Park, Bayfest is becoming one of the must see events that captures the Southern California lifestyle.
Since its inception just a few years back, concertgoers from cost-to-coast are marking their calendars for Bayfest. For those not in the know, this scenic festival takes place north of downtown San Diego.

Mission Bayfest is the ultimate sonic experience that features the sights and sounds of summer, and the Jamaican and Jawaiian influence of sights and sounds will be on full display for the three-day festival of heart and soul.
For this edition of Bayfest, the reggae-themed festival will welcome some heavyweights on September 27th, 28th and 29th.
Trust me on this one, there will be a lot of fans ready to enjoy the sun and the bands!
Kicking off the festival on day one, concertgoers will be entertained by the opener Tribal Seeds, then Stick Figure will take the stage.
Fans will be treated to some of their favorite hits from this larger-than-life Rasta juggernaut with songs like, “World on Fire,” “Edge of the Ocean,” “Once in a Lifetime,” “Weight of Sound,” “Easy Runaway,” and if we’re lucky, maybe they slide in their collaboration with Sublime, “Feel Like That.”
Reason # 101 Day One will be a party atmosphere, entertainment will be provided by DJ Z-Trip. His mad mixes are worth the price of admission at any party with thousands of your closest friends.
The Saturday extravaganza features Iration and Pepper, while ROME and Duddy bring their tandem act to San Diego.
Truthfully, Pepper and Iration are a festival in themselves. The SoCal / Hawaiian sons to all bring the islands vibration to wherever they play. For this day, Rome and Duddy have been touring for more than a minute; and with the two playing together for years when Dirty heads played alongside Sublime with Rome, this pairing will just make you smile.
Also taking the stage Saturday you can catch Iam Tongi, Kbong and Johnny Cosmic, Artikal Sound System, Tropidelic, Tunnel Vision, Doah’s Daydream, Dubbest and my personal favorite, Bumpin’ Uglies.

Sunday brings the wood with Wiz Khalifa, Fortunate Youth, and Cypress Hill closes out the three day festival.
These bands can bring it, you’ll be either a rap superstar or insane in the membrane not to check out day three!
Bottom line, no matter which vision of cool runnings-esque soothing music, be it reggae, hip hop, or a Jawaiian mash-up featuring a few elements… Mission Bayfest is for you.
Like all kick-ass shows, there will be plenty of food, drink and merch to keep you smiling for one reason or another.
If you are looking for fun in the sun and under the moon, this festival is what the doctor ordered to close out the summer and usher in fall.
