Sinéad O’Connor
To Be Immortalized
August 15, 2025 by Jimmy Alvarez
In 2023, we lost one of the most prolific female voices to come out of Ireland – or anywhere – and now the beloved singer Sinéad O’Connor is being immortalized.
No, not by a monumental statute or a holiday named after her – it’s better; it’s a biopic.
The word in Tinseltown is that the movie is in development. What does that mean exactly? It means Hollywood – or someone – is working on it.

According to Variety, the film will focus mainly on the early days of the rock icon, who passed away at age 56. It is reported that Irish production company ie: entertainment – who was behind the documentary “Nothing Compares” – appear to be the project lead.
They are reportedly working with Nine Daughters, who have produced several critically-acclaimed films, including “2022.” Per the same Variety report, the storyline appears to be centered on how “one young woman from Dublin took on the world, examining how her global fame may have been built on her talent, but her name became synonymous with her efforts to draw attention to the crimes committed by the Catholic Church and the Irish state.”
In her 2021 memoir, “Rememberings,” O’Connor recalled the reaction to her tearing the picture: “Total stunned silence in the audience. And when I walk backstage, literally not a human being is in sight. All doors have closed. Everyone has vanished. Including my manager, who locks himself in his room for three days and unplugs his phone.”
O’Connor went on to say: “Everyone wants a pop star, see? But I am a protest singer. I just had stuff to get off my chest. I had no desire for fame.”
O’Connor’s 1990 album “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got” was an international success, propelled by the lead single, “Nothing Compares 2 U.”
The album and single achieved numerous accolades, including a Brit Award and a Grammy, while O’Connor became the first woman to win an MTV Video of the Year.
O’Connor went on to have other established hits with “Mandinka” and “Emperor’s New Clothes,” but it was Prince’s Midas touch that sent her into the stratosphere.
No word just yet on the release date for the biopic. In the meantime, we will remember her through her fame, infamy, and music.
