Back to the ’80s with
CLIVE FARRINGTON
at Garden Amp
August 26, 2025 By Kevin Gomez
Clive Farrington is a name larger-than-life from the ’80s. He was part of When in Rome who created the ultimate, quintessential theme song of the 80’s when they crafted the top 40 hit, “The Promise.”
It’s definitely a contender for one of the greatest songs to come out of that decade and still gets endless radio play some 40 years later. The song features some of the most iconic keyboards ever played. The band gained popularity with an entirely new generation of adolescents when the song was featured in the credits for 2004’s “Napoleon Dynamite.”
Farrington still tours the world successfully and has played such festivals as 80’s Retro Rebellion 2023 and the Totally 80s Tour the year prior.
He sounds fantastic live, bringing his music with his phenomenal vocals.

CLIVE FARRINGTON LIVE
That said, Garden Amphitheater in Garden Grove has become home to several tribute shows, including cover acts from The Strokes, Deftones, Slipknot, Green Day, and blink-182, just to name a few. This Labor Day weekend the Garden Amp welcomes Back to the 80’s. Garden Amp has also delivered established bands such as Bad Religion, Pennywise and The Adicts to the OC music scene.
This Sunday’s show will be headlined by none other than Clive Farrington. Not just a tribute band, but rather, the actual original lead artist playing his hits.

Show support will be provided by Devotional, a Depeche Mode Experience. The tribute act has gained quite a popular following based on their live performances and dead-on covers of Depeche Mode. Also playing this weekend will be West End Boys, a Pet Shop Boys Experience.
I was never fortunate enough to catch the original act live, so to see them in an intimate setting should be quite the experience. The show will be hosted by DJ Jose Shuton, playing all your favorite 80s jams. Back to the 80s will take this Sunday (August 31st), tickets are available now.
For those unable to make it, Farrington will also be playing the inaugural O.C. Rewind Fest on September 27th at the HB Sports Complex in Huntington Beach.

That festival features Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey, Men Without Hats, Bow Wow Wow (feat. Annabella Lwin), Naked Eyes, Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel, Animotion, Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons, Tim Polecat of The Polecats, and Gary Myrick. Tickets for this festival are also available now.
No matter where you see Mr. Farrington, it is a guaranteed good time. Seriously, get out to Garden Amp this Sunday for a very fun night under the stars.
