Returns to Pacific Amphitheatre
July 23, 2024 by Michelle Cooper
This is a tour that brings me back to my roots and my love for music. Saturday mornings, while the rest of the house was asleep, I would be downstairs alone, standing on my green-shag carpet with my black and white TV on, waiting for the voice… Come on, you know the deep voice of Don Cornelius saying, “If soul is your pleasure….”

I would practice my dance moves, trying to do the “cowboy” to a group of men telling me to “get down,” with a deep voice bringing jazz, funk, and soul with the arrangement of horns – oh the horns! They are Kool – yes, I said Kool with a “K” because I am talking about none other than the Godfathers of Funk!

Just picture Kool & the Gang singing “Jungle Boogie.” Oh what a song to dance to! If you have ever been to a wedding, school dance, night club, or any joyous occasion of celebration, then you definitely have danced (no one sits when the funk is on) to their hit “Celebration.”
These Grandmasters of Funk will be bringing back all our favorites and more.
The Grammy-winning Kool & the Gang have enjoyed a 60-year career that has garnered fans of every generation thanks to hits like “Summer Madness,” “Open Sesame,” and “Cherish.”
They have also influenced so many other artists in a variety of musical genres, and will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. These living legends need to be seen, and they are headed to Pacific Amphitheatre, July 31st.
Going from the “Cowboy” to the “Bird” – joining Kool & the Gang is Morris Day & the Time. This synth-pop funk R&B group is bringing us back to our “Jungle Love” days, plus other favorites like “Get Up,” “Cool,” and the “Walk.”
Morris Day, along with Jellybean and Monte, will make you feel the Minneapolis sound with that suave sense of sexy that Day delivers in his stage presence.

Orange County will be rocking, and not one soul will be sitting down with these OGs onstage. You better be ready for a Funkalicious time – I know I am!
