CODEFENDENTS
Announce Co-Headlining Tour
October 15, 2024 by Kevin Gomez
Sam King has been a very busy man the last couple years. Lead singer of Bay Area’s Get Dead, as well as co-lead singer of Codefendants, King had to pull double duty last weekend at NOFX’s last three shows playing with both bands on consecutive days.

Get Dead was signed to Fat Wreck Chords in 2013 after King famously dosed label owner and NOFX lead singer, Fat Mike during an interview. Fat Mike couldn’t decide whether to be upset at such betrayal by someone he just met, or impressed at such a ballsy move. Fortunately for fans, he decided on the latter.
After releasing several EPs since their debut with Fat Wreck, it was 2020’s “Dancing with the Curse” that really put Get Dead on the map. From a previous skate punk band, the band embraced its hip-hop and reggae roots with a phenomenal album that I haven’t stopped playing since it was released.
In January 2022 I was fortunate enough to catch a lineup at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach of Linh Le from Bad Cop/Bad Cop, Hail ACAB, a young rapper and folksinger named Ceschi Ramos, and Get Dead.
I still consider it by far the best show I went to all year. It’s also memorable because I believe it was one of the first foundations that would lead to the formation of Codefendants.

From my first time watching Ramos perform at this show, it was immediate that he was going to be destined for stardom. He was a literal one-man show. From rapping, to freestyle, to playing folk music solo acoustic. Midway through his set he left the main stage and walked out the door to a stage set up on Alex’s patio.
The crowd followed him and watched, and he finished the rest of his set. Following his set, Get Dead proceeded to tear the roof off the joint with a stellar performance.

A few months later, Codefendants was born, with King and Ramos on vocals, and none other than Fat Mike himself playing bass on their debut album, “This is Crime Wave.”
The album received critical acclaim, landing on several critics top albums for 2023. If their recorded music is considered good, their live shows are simply next level.
Always high energy, high emotion with both King and Ramos nearly in tears, and often finds the two in the crowd rapping to each other face-to-face.

Get Dead and Codefendants are each incredible live acts, so when the bands announced a co-headlining tour of four dates, I immediately bought tickets to all three that were in Southern California.
The two acts bring this circus to Character’s in Pomona on December 6th, followed by an appearance at Triple B’s in Las Vegas December 7th. They will once again grace Alex’s Bar on December 8th and wrap things up at the world-famous Whisky a Go Go on December 9th.
